New Orleans Style Shrimp and Grits

A nice twist on our classic Low Country Shrimp and Grits.

Ingredients

½ lb. sliced smoked sausage or andouille sausage, optional
- 2 onions, chopped
- 1-2 green peppers, chopped

¼ cup chopped celery

1-2 chopped tomatoes
- 3-4 T butter (or 3 slices of bacon)

2 seasoning packets from Kitcheneez Shrimp and Grits One Pot Kit
- 1 lb. shrimp, peeled
-
2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
-
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 1/2 cups water

grits (included in the kit)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Directions
In a large pot, brown the sausage. Add the onions, peppers, tomatoes and butter. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and whipping cream. Set aside while you cook the grits.
To a large pot, add the grits, seasoning mix and water. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 6-12 minutes or until the grits are thick and done. (Add a little more water, if needed, when cooking.)
Stir in the cheese.
Serve the shrimp over the warm grits. Garnish with green onion, hot sauce or Parmesan cheese, if desired.
